Chapter 1
MANDATO story and setting
You play a bartender who trusts the mayor. Your wife is the reporter who does not. The horror sits on top of that argument.
What I checked
I read the itch.io and Steam story blocks side by side, then checked them against the morning of the ItsDaKimchi recording. The store text names Juan and Mina and a powerful mayor. The recording adds the barangay details the blurb only implies: a sari-sari stop, campaign posters, a tricycle, relief goods. I am not naming the town. The developer has not published a town name.
What the store page commits to
MANDATO is a short, story-driven, first-person horror game set in the Philippines. Juan works the bar. He overhears criminals and political figures. Mina keeps investigating. His loyalty frays, and the ordinary rooms turn frightening. The itch.io tags include atmospheric, Filipino, PSX, psychological horror, and suspense. The genre line also says simulation, interactive fiction, and role playing.
Wiktionary records mandato as a mandate in several languages, including a Tagalog borrowing from Spanish. Portuguese and Spanish entries also include a term of office. Those meanings fit a political reading of the title, but the developer has not published an explanation of the title’s origin.
What the chapter shows, beyond the blurb
The employment letter dated 2024-03-02 puts Juan at Ligaya Lounge Bar starting 2024-04-04, 3pm to 11pm, six days a week. A news broadcast talks about millions of pesos, unemployment, and no hospital funding. Players on r/PHGamers describe the plot as close to real political fear in the Philippines. That is their reading. The game’s own text is the broadcast, the relief queue, and Juan’s refusal to blame Mayor Perez.
